Mikel Arteta Applauds a More Dependable Squad and Confirms Kai Havertz Injury Blow.

Arsenal's manager remains confident that his squad can continue to cope with injury setbacks after confirming that forward Kai Havertz will not return for a few more weeks.

Prolonged Recovery for Havertz

The German forward has been out since August after undergoing an operation on his knee. Initially expected to be available sooner, Arteta revealed the player faced a hurdle when advancing his training and could not progress “to the next level.”

“Our experience helped us build a group that is far more dependable and has more options,” commented Arteta.

Selection Dilemma for Brentford Clash

This development presents a selection headache for the midweek match against Brentford. A decision is required between sticking with Mikel Merino, who scored playing out of position last weekend, or bringing back Viktor Gyökeres, who featured briefly from a muscle injury as a substitute. Long-term absentee Gabriel Jesus remains an option following a lengthy absence.

Defensive Concerns Remain

Further fitness issues surround centre-back William Saliba and attacker Leandro Trossard, who were absent for the Stamford Bridge game. Therefore, summer signings Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié are likely to keep their places in the heart of the defence for the table-toppers.

Arteta feels the substantial investment on reinforcements in the last transfer window has placed the club in a much stronger position to deal with such absences.

Squad Depth Key to Premier League Pursuit

When asked if more options was helping their championship push, Arteta was emphatic. “Indeed, as this campaign has presented greater challenges in the attacking line, and now the situation with the backline,” he noted.

“History has shown us that we must deploy players in various roles, and they need to be prepared to fulfil different roles if we aim to challenge at this level. And the example of Mikel is just the best one.”

Arteta's Support for Frustrated Havertz

Commenting on the setback noted by Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann, the manager gave additional context. “His recovery was progressing. He failed to advance to the required step and now it’s looking like we have solved that issue.”

He shared his eagerness to have him back. “Everyone is eager to have him. Honestly, Havertz is someone that, personally, I value highly for what he brings to the team, but his mentality, his nature. I see him suffer while sidelined.”

“His playing record is phenomenal, he's rarely been injured, and I am eagerly awaiting to have him back involved playing because I think it’s going to be a massive boost.”
