Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Soldiers Table

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a colorful mix of personalities, and a gripping narrative including angels, demons, and malevolent powers growing in strength within the city.

Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of this adventure follow below.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

Episode 3 concluded with a huge suspense moment and revealed the premier party of adventurers who will separate from the main group to undertake their independent quest, distinct from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team features Teor (played by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan (the actor).

Why Split the Party?

With an extensive roster, it was clear from the outset that having everyone at one table would be impossible.

Hence, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Prelude, intertwining the individual narratives before branching into three smaller tables: Fighters, Schemers, and Explorers.

Characteristics of the Warrior Group

According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for participants who are drawn to a traditionally charged fight-heavy narrative style where non-violent answers are scarce.

Upon first impression, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might seem out of place, but the events of the latest installment demonstrate why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

First, the group knows exactly where to proceed after a intense opening clash with the antagonists.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose death initiated the narrative’s action—used The Crow Keepers for his own means, entering the hidden lair, assaulting the rogue, and taking all the powerful objects to auction.

The traitor then settled his liabilities and ran away to a secure base in the remote area, above the city, with Cyd hot on his heels.

Character Drivers

Moreover, each adventurer has a personal reason to depart the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as the companion and best friend, wants vengeance.
  • The knowledgeable figure knows the region and warns that it is a nasty location.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to eliminate Teor and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their status as key figures in the powerful family could assist the party access locations they normally couldn’t.
  • Moreover, The grateful character pledged a life debt to The cleric for his rescue and will now go with him wherever.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are wanted by the powers that rule Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • Thimble and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • The strong figure and The cleric betrayed the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • Teor is marked for death by the family.

This leaves them little choice but to travel to Timmony in quest for Casimir.

Future Episodes

According to episode three’s follow-up content, we discover that the warrior group will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the players to round up the Questers and Planners groups.

Fans can anticipate learning which characters will be in which group in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, available to watch on next week.
