Roughly fifty vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to police.
Cars, building surfaces and postal boxes were vandalized, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they announced in a release.
Officers report they were contacted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a man discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish fluid.
The fluid had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then found multiple other vandalized vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are banned in Germany under regulations outlawing the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials report initial examinations suggest the substance was probably human blood.
"There is still no lead as to its origin; investigators are presently not informed of any physical harm in relation with the incident," they added.
City officials announced they were attempting "to solve the case" and have appealed to the residents for tips.
An important representative said the attack made him stunned and required to be resolved rapidly.
"This act affects the core of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he wrote on online, mentioning the death of nine individuals by a shooter targeting residents of foreign heritage in February 2020.
